Backups

Borgmatic handles all backups across the homelab. Every server runs borgmatic nightly and backs up to the two other servers and one offsite host, through append-only, per-client restricted borg users. Every run reports to ntfy, a dead-man switch notices a run that never happened, and restores are tested every quarter.

The NAS's media library is the exception on purpose: it's covered by SnapRAID parity only.

  • BorgBackup Borgmatic

    The backup mesh: append-only peers + offsite, database dumps, systemd timers, ntfy and dead-man switches.

  • Restore & restore testing

    Getting files and databases back, rebuilding a server, and the quarterly restore test.

  • Borg UI

    Web UI to browse and restore from every repository. Read and restore only; borgmatic does the backups.

  • Backrest

    Restic-based backup UI. Superseded by Borgmatic, kept for reference.
